Re-vive
rENs and DESSO


A publication and invitation design was commissioned by design duo Renee Mennen and Stefanie van Keijsteren of rENs with DESSO for a new carpet collection. rENs used a manual dyeing process to re-colour out-dated collections with red dye. This became the main driver for the publication and poster's concept. As with the manual dyeing process, the idea of dipping was used for the logo. To give the impression of something being dipped into dye, with a slow change of colour, a graduation was applied to the word 're-vive' - the name of the collection (playing on the revival and reuse of old carpets and rugs). Textured organic paper, which holds natural imperfections, was used to relate to the idea of used carpets, which hold their own imperfections. A red cotton thread binding was used to connect with the overall theme of what can be done with textiles and fabric. To evolve the theme inside the book, the chapters were given headings that including the 're': re-vive, re-invent, re-colour, re-d, re-use, re-new, re-sult.
